About 3CX

3CX is a software-based PBX solution with a cloud-hosted option, offering users web conferencing, CRM integration, live chat, instant messaging, and native mobile apps.

3CX includes a softphone for Windows, enabling users to make and receive calls through their computers, removing the need for phone hardware and allowing for work outside the office. An inbuilt multi-view switchboard allows users to manage incoming calls, view all colleague availability, and drag-and-drop calls for transfer. With CRM integration, users can launch calls in a single click from within their CRM software, and customer information appears as a pop-up on inbound calls. Caller ID is used to identify customers and automatically log the call in their customer record, with no need for manual call logging.

3CX’s smartphone clients for Android and iOS allow users to make and receive calls over 3G or WiFi, and each include an inbuilt SIP tunnel to prevent issues with remote firewalls. Incoming calls and messages trigger push notifications, allowing phones to be left on standby to reduce battery drain. Users can update their availability statuses through the app, and view their colleagues’ statuses. Through 3CX’s mobile apps, users can make and receive calls from their mobile phone without the need to give out their personal phone number.

3CX offers users clientless web conferencing, with no need to download additional software or plugins, as all voice and video communication is based in a web browser. Also included are tools for remote control and assistance, and for feedback collection.

Our on premise system had a number of issues. As it was not hosted it would only work in the office. Sometimes when we had an outage random users would lose their voicemail greetings. There was missing call queue and forwarding functionality that we required.

Pros

Easy to implement. We converted over from our on premise Avaya system in less than an hour with little more than a couple of forms and spreadsheets to fill in. We have the option of the computer soft phone or the iOS app which means that people can decide how they receive/make "landline" calls. For thos in shared/high noise locations there are a number of voip deskphones that will also work. It gave us much better queue/forwarding functionality than we had before. Before this system any call forwarded to a mobile/another extension had the number of the extension doing the forward rather than the initial caller. Simple admin interface. Easy to use.

Cons

There is no way to seperate the softphone volume from the generic computer volume so it can be quite a shock if you are doing something and the phone rings. There can also be annoying instances of the app trying to call on any number that you click on as it cannot identify phone neumbers. Minor things but room for improvement.

Mainly i wanted to switch to a hosted solution with an app. We had dozens of users with $500+ deskphones literally gathering dust. So i wanted the numbers but not the hardware. I also wanted it for people who are travelling or did not have a company mobile phone so that they could send and receive calls without using their own plan.

It was a contractual obligation. When moving from my old system i still had a contract with my SIP phone so 3cx was the most cost effective option.

In regards to the cons you mention, if you have multiple speaker devices (computer, headset, monitor) you can select an individual device and set the ringer to be that and adjust the volume accordingly.

If you wish, you can also exempt certain websites from having the numbers detected as telephone numbers, from the settings of the 3CX click-to-call extension.

The licenses which supposed to be free forever, all of a sudden weren't. Even after that, because everything else worked, I have grudgingly tolerated their changes and price increases until 3CX decided to go after our customers directly. I had none of that. Switched all of my customers to a competitor which allows multi tenant and perpetual license.

Pros

3CX used to be good. I was using it for 20+ of my customers and since 2015. Best feature was the clean interface.

Cons

3CX cancelling multi tenant version in order to make more money. After that, every change translated in to higher cost for a customer while adding a lot more work to us, MSP's.

This plan provides nearly the same features as 3CX PRO, making it a great option for smaller setups. Works well for our small company. It's easy to go in and make changes to phone lists, Digital receptionist feature works really well for us as we need to route calls to different people throughout the week. Very user friendly

Pros

The mobile app is great for users that work from home or are out on site.

Cons

The new version is more complicated to initially set up. We had to make a number of changes to digital receptionist rules.

Pros

It allows you to view the availability of every employee quickly and easily, and with whom they are speaking. This helps minimize the time you spend transferring callers

Cons

The program will occasionally (maybe once a month,) glitch out and crash. It doesn't take long to come back up but it can be inconvenient.
