About Mailchimp
Mailchimp is a marketing automation platform that allows you to create, send, and analyze email and ad campaigns. The software offers complete campaign transparency, email tracking, view success and click-through rates, custom reports, and the ability to manage subscribers and un-subscribers. Mailchimp lets you create custom templates and at the same time choose from an array of pre-made templates and campaigns.
Mailchimp is also available as freemium solution - you can send up to 12,000 emails to 2,000 subscribers each month without any financial commitment. Most of the features, including access to marketing automation workflows as well as the ability to create ad campaigns, are available to free users. The Mailchimp mobile application gives you the power to create and send campaigns, manage subscribers, keep tabs on your account activity, and more.
Choose from numerous integrations and web services to streamline your workflow, sync customer data, generate more revenue, and grow your business. Connect your online store to Mailchimp to capture order information, create targeted campaigns, automate product follow-ups, and send personalized order notifications. Mailchimp provides support via an online knowledge base and technical support via email and live chats to help users with any questions that may come up along the way.
Key benefits of Mailchimp
- Automations: Keep a personal touch while removing manual tasks from your to-do list. Pre-built marketing automations create room to focus on strategy. Welcome, re-engage, and follow up with the people who matter to you.
- Lists: Mailchimp helps users customize signup forms to match your brand, so you can share it on your website and integrate it into your social media pages. You can also collect signups from a variety of mobile devices or import an existing list. Users can also take advantage of existing integrations to help keep their data up to date between platforms.
- Templates: Mailchimp offers a variety of pre-designed, responsive templates. Users can also start-from-scratch and use the template builder for more customization. If you’re an HTML expert, you can code your own with our flexible template language.
- Campaigns: Email Segmentation is easy with Mailchimp. Send a campaign to your entire list, or target people based on available list data such as geolocation or their open/click history. RSS-to-Email and Automated Workflows allow you to create automated campaigns that will start sending based on triggers set by the user.
- Ads: Find new customers and reconnect with current ones through another channel by created integrated Facebook and Instagram ads.
- Reports: Mailchimp’s reporting features help a user understand who’s opening, clicking, and coming back for more. The reports are mobile friendly and can be exported to share with coworkers or clients. Tweet Trends gives you insight into your subscribers’ activity on Twitter, and our Google Analytics integration gives you advanced stats on how your campaigns affect traffic to your website. If you sell online, our reports can help users understand how their email marketing is directly affecting sales on their website.

I've been using Mailchimp for several months and it has streamlined my email marketing efforts. The templates look professional and the automation features save a lot of time. Reporting is also insightful and easy to understand.
Pros
Mailchimp offers a clean, intuitive user interface with plenty of powerful features. It makes designing emails and automations quick and easy, has robust analytics and segmentation tools, and integrates smoothly with other platforms.
Cons
While Mailchimp is excellent overall, the pricing can become expensive as subscriber lists grow, and mastering some of the more advanced automation features takes time.

MailChimp Works So Well That I Can Go Home Early

Since MailChimp takes care of sending the emails to the subscribers, I don’t have to send them individually. The automation feature of mailchimp eliminates the need to send a welcome email after each subscription to our service and most importantly, mailchimp also prevents most of our emails from going into spam folders.
Pros
My cup of coffee got cold, but I was so happy the email builder did not freeze on me today. The fact that it does not freak out when I try to change the template, is so much better than the other program we were using before. Integration with our CRM was also super easy. I thought I would be spending hours or even days trying to figure it out; but it worked instantly.
Cons
I hate deleting all the stupid AI suggestions in MailChimp every time. Why is there no free version to test things with? It’s really annoying. There has been one time where the unsubscribe link malfunctioned and I had to go through each and every single user and remove them myself. And, their reporting is so basic that for what we pay, I feel it’s ridiculous!

Great for basics, but too limited for advanced personalization

My overall experience started out positive, but as soon as our needs became more advanced, Mailchimp wasn’t able to grow with us. It works well for small businesses or straightforward campaigns, but once you rely heavily on personalization, agent-specific messaging, or more sophisticated data flows, the platform becomes restrictive.
Ultimately, it didn’t fit our setup as a travel organization where each agent needs to communicate in their own name.
Pros
Mailchimp is easy to set up and great for simple newsletters. The user interface is clean, intuitive, and accessible to non-technical users. For small lists and basic campaigns, it works quickly and reliably.
Cons
Working as a marketing manager in a travel organization, I quickly ran into limitations. We wanted to send emails on behalf of individual travel agents, with deeper personalization and more complex segmentation. Mailchimp simply couldn’t support the level of customization we needed.
Dynamic content is restrictive, multi-step journeys feel limited, and the platform becomes expensive fast when you scale up in contacts or email volume. For organizations that operate with multiple agents or brands, Mailchimp lacks the flexibility and depth required.

Overall, Mailchimp is a fantastic EDM software with plenty of options for being creative, but also has premade templates to make the process of making a campaign easy and quick. Whilst it does have some cons, its pros outshine them!
Pros
Mailchimp offers a great way to market our conferences, from registration dates to sponsorship opportunities. The UI is very easy to follow, clean and everything is grouped together in a way that makes sense. The ability to schedule the emails has been a game-changer for weekend deadlines and when things fall on holidays.
Cons
The ability to save a copy of audience data before deleting audiences could be slightly faster and easier to do; it feels like it takes a while to do this, especially when you have 50+ audiences. We are also experience some issues with the button shapes not always saving when sending an EDM.

In hospitality, keeping in touch with previous guests is key to repeat bookings. I use this tool to send seasonal updates and it works well. It helps us to keep a professional image without having to hire a dedicated designer, though the part of contact management needs constant cleanup.
Pros
The drag-and-drop builder is graphically intuitive and it is easy to design beautiful newsletters about our latest offers.
Cons
The pricing is very high when you exceed certain subscriber levels. Managing multiple audience lists can quickly get messy and contacts can easily be duplicated.
