We encounter 10+ soil scenarios on many of our projects and have to figure out the risk of not adding a layer because AGTEK caps that limit at 10 surfaces. I'd also love for the user to have the ability to enter moisture contents, blow counts, and possibly (not required) the liquid limit and plasticity index of soils when entering the strata layer information. Recently on a commercial site, I built the existing and proposed surfaces to run comparisons. The volume breakdown was detailed. When we compared the AGTEK quantities to the engineer’s estimated numbers, they were very close. 3D modeling is another feature I rely on heavily. Being able to rotate the site, visually inspect slopes and drainage patterns has helped me catch grading spikes that didn’t look right in plan view I was able to fix the mistake. Cross sections are also strong. Once you understand the workflow, generating sections along roads is straight forward. The estimator \& I especially like being able to apply my cross sections to google earth KMZ file and see the work on the map. > > **Cons**: I am running the program on a fairly new computer yet sometimes when the file is to big it will take a long time to print. AGTEK support team are very knowledgeable, and they helped me reduce the amount of time to print. > > Overall, once I got past the learning curve, it’s a powerful tool that gave me confidence in my earthwork numbers. Reports are set up and ready to present in front of owners/clients/coworkers in minutes. We also use the surfaces to create files for the gps systems in the field (for the rovers and the machines) > > **Cons**: the biggest complaint I have is that the screen can not be rotated. If a file is set up in real world coordinates they are sometimes facing odd directions and it would be better if the screen could be oriented in a better way to read it. Even rotating 90 degrees at a time would be better than having to look at it upside down or sideways. > > The company has used Agtek for earthwork takeoff for 30ish years. We have been using materials for over 10 years. Now we are using underground for pipework and reveal for drones. It is like one stop shopping for anything involving sitework estimating and design. Every so often if we get stuck and have to reach out to the help desk they are fast to respond and always solve the problems in a timely manner.
