About Google Forms
Google Forms is a free form builder tool that enables users to create surveys and questionnaires online in order to collect and organize information, simple or complex. Forms can be used to plan events, manage registrations, set up a poll, collect contact information, create a pop quiz, and more. Users can send all collected data to a spreadsheet and analyze data right in Google Sheets.
When creating a form with Google Forms, users can select from multiple question types, customize values, and drag-and-drop to reorder questions. Question types include dropdowns, multiple choice, and linear scales. Users can also use page branching and question skip logic in order to show questions based on answers. Images, videos (including YouTube videos), logos, and custom logic can be added to forms in order to send professional looking surveys and questionnaires to individuals or customers. Google Forms will automatically suggest a set of colors to style the form, or users can choose from an assortment of curated themes.
Responses to surveys and questionnaires are automatically collected and stored within Google Forms, with live response data and charts. Users can analyze entries with automatic summaries, and watch as responses appear in real time. Raw data can be accessed and analyzed via Google Sheets or other platforms. All forms are mobile responsive, meaning that users can create, edit, and complete forms using any device. Additional users can be invited via email and provided with access for collaboration. Google Forms can be shared with individuals via email, a link, embedded into a website, or shared via social media.

Robust tool for the price

Overall, Google Forms has been solid, reliable and easy to learn and use. I used it to build an Archetype quiz for my community, and the process was straightforward. Although I pushed the limits of the tool by integrating Google Sheets to do the heavy lifting of tallying the quiz scores. It’s as simple as dragging and dropping questions, setting up sections, adding images or videos and hitting send to launch the quiz, but the results took more time to set up.
The biggest plus: it’s fast. You can create, share, and start collecting responses in minutes. The automatic response collection in Google Sheets is a huge time saver for follow-up and data tracking. While it’s definitely not the most customizable tool for branding or interactive features, it more than makes up for it by being reliable and free.
Bottom line, if you want something that “just works” without a steep learning curve or surprise costs, Google Forms delivers. It let me focus on the content and experience—not troubleshooting or setup headaches. I’d use it again in a heartbeat for quizzes, surveys, or any quick data collection project.
Pros
Google Forms is one of those tools that just gets the job done, with zero drama. You can't beat the price, FREE. I have 8 years in education, and I've used this tool for both K-12 education needs and extensive for business. I used it to build a branded Archetype quiz for my community and was able to design, share, and collect responses in under an hour—no tech headaches, no hidden paywall nonsense. The interface is clean and intuitive, branching logic actually works, and the responses land instantly in a Google Sheet. I also love that it’s free, cloud-based, and accessible on any device, which makes sharing the quiz simple whether it’s going to a mailing list, a Facebook group, or embedded on a site.
Cons
Let’s be real: it’s not the prettiest or most customizable tool out there. You get a handful of color themes, a basic banner image, and that’s about it. If you want a quiz that feels super branded or interactive, you’ll hit the wall quickly, but the cost will also be a steep jump up. Analytics are basic, and branching logic (while solid) isn’t as flexible as some paid tools. There’s also no built-in scoring for personality/Archetype quizzes—you must manually tally or work some spreadsheet magic. I worked to complete the scoring in Google Sheets, but it did take quite a bit of time to get the formular correct.

Google Forms: Convenient and Easy, but Not Built for Advanced Use

My overall experience with Google Forms has been mostly simple and easy to use. It’s helpful for creating basic forms and collecting information, but the value for money is limited since it lacks more advanced features without using add-ons. Customer support is minimal and mostly self-guided. Data collection works well for simple needs, but reporting and organization options are basic. Survey design is very limited, with minimal customization. It’s easy to get started, but ease of use drops when trying to build more complex forms. There are also no built-in payment options, which limits how it can be used for professional or business purposes.
Pros
What I liked most about Google Forms is the exceptional value for money—it’s free yet packed with powerful features. The platform is very easy to use, making survey design simple and intuitive even for beginners, while still offering enough customization for more advanced needs. Data collection is seamless, with real-time responses and automatic organization in Google Sheets. Its built-in features cover most survey and form requirements without needing add-ons, and customer support is supported by extensive documentation and community resources. While payment options are not applicable since it’s a free tool, this actually enhances its value, making Google Forms a highly accessible and efficient solution for collecting and managing data.
Cons
What I liked least about Google Forms is that it feels a bit limited once your needs go beyond the basics. While it’s free, the value for money isn’t great if you need more advanced features like deeper reporting, branding, or automation. Customer support is mostly self-serve, which can be frustrating when you need quick help. It’s easy to use for simple forms, but ease of use drops when trying to set up more complex logic. Data collection works fine, but the insights and exports are pretty basic. Survey design options are minimal and don’t allow much customization, and there are no built-in payment options, which makes it unsuitable for collecting payments or fees.

We use Google Forms because it is included with our Google workstation package. We needed forms for employees to fill out in a variety of situations. Forms are easy and quick to make and edit, and easy for employees to find quickly and easily. I like being able to export responses to a spreadsheet which I can customize for the information I want to show. I do have frustrations with the limitation of the application, however. It should be much easier to attach a signature. There should be ways to condense the form so it takes up less space on the page; it is just too difficult to contain a lot of information per page. Even simple questions, like name, take up a huge amount of space. Also, there should be more options for different options for editing after submission.
Pros
Forms are easy to make and edit. Also comes free with our Google workstation subscription.
Cons
Too many workarounds are necessary to use this in a business setting

Google Forms is absolutely crucial for my work in the non-profit sphere. It allows me to manage both employees and events with ease.
Pros
Google Forms makes it easy to track registration and other information for free. The design is simple and easy to navigate. The features work well and allow you to really customize what you're looking for and review the data in a number of ways.
Cons
My number one wish for Google Forms is for it to include a free form limiter or a to be able to set a date for it to close without having to do it manually.
