Square Payments

Online payment processing for merchants & vendors

About Square Payments

Square Payments is an online payment processing solution which integrates with Square hardware and POS software to allow businesses to accept various payment types. Businesses can use Square Payments to make transactions from any location, deposit payments from all major credit cards, send invoices, store payment details for recurring customers, sell through e-commerce platforms, and more through integration with other Square tools and third party applications.

In order to facilitate the acceptance of any type of payment, Square Payments provides tools for managing chip cards, NFC payments, magstripe, remote payments, cash deposits, and more, meaning businesses can offer more flexibility to their customers. Users can integrate with Square’s card reader hardware and POS application to process payments anywhere, and in any way that customers wish to pay. Payments can also be handled remotely by keying in payments even when offline and, utilizing Square hardware, merchants can accept credit cards, NFC payments, gift cards, and more.

Square Payments provides automatic security measures including PCI compliance, chargeback protection, account takeover protection, fraud monitoring and detection, and more, so that both businesses and their customers can rest assured their accounts and data are safe when completing transactions.

My overall experience is A++ since I am able to accept and process payment at a fraction of the cost and without costing me more time and effort.

    Pros

Using this software for a couple of years now I really like the ease of use and how it's transferable between all my devices. I am able to access reports, process payments, and more from the mobile dashboard or my PC.
It doesn't require that I have or use any additional products or equipment for function. They have very friendly and knowledgable customer service and support.
I love that you are able to integrate Square into other systems for a more robust system.

    Cons

I wasn't able to really pin point anything that I didn't like or enjoy regarding the software.

Square Reader made everything easier and better!

    Reviewed on 2023-05-12

    Pros

I've had to call customer service before and they were very friendly and very helpful. They were trained well and understood the entire program really well! Square makes call in orders, and online orders simple too, and it saves time for both you and your customer. It's also really easy to figure out how it all works. It's one of the most user friendly programs I've ever used

    Cons

Only complaint I could have, and it wasn't even really a complaint.. when you very first get it and have to input all your existing customer info, and them programming in your menu and prices felt like it took forever. It took a minute in between each new entry to save it and move on, so it took me 2 days to complete the task. It's nice now tho because entering the entire menu in, allows my receipts to be detailed and very organized and professional in appearance.

Reasons for Switching to Square Payments

Price was a big factor. Square was every bit of 40% cheaper in fees and everything. A previous place I worked, used Apple pay, and it was constantly locking up or restarting itself, and the more customer info or menu items you entered into the program, the slower the entire system ran. It was very inconvenient more than once for me during peak times when we've got a line going . A good friend uses Square for her photography business, and she was telling me how easy it wad to use and setup and how impressed she had been with it, she had previously also been using Apple pay and got to where she hated it.. So her suggestion for me to use it resonated with me pretty strongly. I'm glad I chose it.

    Square: The Good and Bad

They were my first choice in the beginning, but after the 2 disputes and how bad they handled them, I went back to PayPal. I still keep them for some of my less conventional clients (the ones who don't want to/ or can't follow a link, but rather just give me their info over the phone).

    Pros

It's easy to use. Your favorite device becomes your POS which is convenient especially for those of us who do work on the road.

You can get instant deposit with an extra fee which is nice.

    Cons

I don't like their customer service. You have to pay extra to be able to call their customer service number and even if you do (because I did the trial for premium service), they don't really resolve anything.

I also don't like their dispute process. You get very limited time to submit your documentation proving the transaction was valid. Some paperwork takes a while to get from clients.

AND...they allowed a couple of clients to dispute charges that were from the year past, which I still don't understand.

The worst part of the dispute process is that they'll take the money from your account and then take forever to return it. In both my cases, I had to pay the premium service to be able to talk to customer service, which got me nowhere and then had to email the dispute team with additional information (which you're not supposed to do since they have a form you fill out through the portal).

And then, if you have customer who makes purchases for the same amount...you can't do instant deposit because they'll hold the funds to make sure you're not ripping people off even though you've demonstrated to be a credible and reputable business.

Square Payments makes accepting and processing credit/debit payments a breeze. They showed me that it isn't complicated at all and I like that they keep records alongside me.

    Pros

Square Payments collaborates with ClinicSense, which my business relies upon to set up appointments and accept credit/debit payments from clients. I love that Square Payments has mobile features as I sell things at the client's location.

    Cons

Sometimes the Square POS doesn't connect with my mobile device, but it is a rare occurence and I can easily send the bill to the client once at home with my laptop device.

I have used Square for 10 years. I have listened to other companies pitches, but stuck with Square, because there is not contract. They are honest as well. Never do they pitch you anything they do not offer. I cannot say that for other payment providers.

    Pros

Square is fantastic when you need to swipe a credit card and allows one to avoid the large fees that others require. No contract and buy equipment as you need it.

    Cons

The only con is getting a hold of a representative. Note, the solution is so simple that you really don't need help.
