A good editing tool but not user friendly

I was an Avid media composer user for long time then convinced by a friend I switched to DaVinci Resolve in 2017.
The learning curve it's very steep and after these years I still need to go back to the user manual for finding functions not so easy to discover. It's a great gear for colorists but not so easy for making simple editing.
It can be improved under many points for instance is not backward compatible so must keep a backup of your project in case of. Difficult to use in a laptop and I use it in a 17" FHD laptop. Anyhow as any software cannot satisfy everyone. I go on use it because at least the updates price (zero) is still fitting my pocket.
Pros
The price was why I choose it at first, then after using it for a while I found it having a plenty of tools in the same box. I still use it since 2017. I Use the studio version which has good tools and permit me to complete a work even I'm alone.
Cons
It's not very user friendly. The UI is not very easy to understand and to much tools are fit in a single screen. Unless I'm not able to discover it the different UI sections are not detachable so Timeline area results sacrificed unless do you have two monitor and move timeline to one of them.

It's excellent for the more experienced editor and highly professional. The DaVinci Resolve free version is, in my opinion, fantastic. As a wedding video editor, the free version fulfills my needs. I use davinci for color correction, and after export, I can edit the clips in other software, a little more user friendly
Pros
it is a very good software for video editing, although it is a little difficult to use. But it does a quality job once you learn to use it.
there is a free version that helps you with 90% of what you need . color grading is the best on the market
Cons
it is a little hard to learn how to use it
It is a little less intuitive to use than other well-known film editing programs.
you will have trouble with parts of the playback when editing if your computer isn't powerful enough.

As I stated above: CATASTROPHIC FAILURE!
Pros
I have found nothing that I like about DaVinci Resolve. I can't figure out how to use it. It is very difficult to even attempt to do things with this program that I can easily achieve on Clipify. DaVinci sucks. May be great for pro's, but a layman...no chance.
Cons
EVERYTHING! Each thing I attempted to do ending in catastrophic failure. I lost videos. I mangled videos. Why is this so much more difficult that Clipify? I can upload, add too, edit, clip, finish and post a video in a couple of hours.

A pro video editor that have a free version that can cover most individuals' needs without the need to buy the paid version.
There are a lot of functions available in the free version and it doesn't feel like a big demo, it really looks like they just made the basic functions available for someone who just want to edit some videos with his family and the more advanced features that doesn't concern everyone, are reserved for the paid version.
The app is fast and responsive even in low end hardware for 1080p that I use, I do believe there are a couple of things in the UI/UX that feel weird but seems like "this is how the pro video people are used to" so yeah I don't know how to feel about it. I mean if the people who pay you require the UI to be that weird, who am I to say "make it simple for me" eh?
All in all there are a lot of tutorials that can help you get the results you want and the one off license system is a blessing those days. I hate subscription models and the cost for the paid version is not going to bankrupt you.
Pros
Even on the free version it is a very powerful video editor, and the paid version is not asking anything extraordinary. Also no Subscription is always a plus.
Cons
Learning curve is a bit step, at least there are a lot of tutorials out there to teach you what you need.

Pros
The fact that it is free but functions like most professional software is great. Lots of Youtube videos out there to allow for easy learning.
Cons
Not too much. On the odd occasion you may encounter certain bugs that come up, but nothing that a good reset of the software would fix. Plus software updates usually fix it.

Resolve is free, with very few limitations. Sink that in: you can get a very-modern, timely-updated, fully featured video workstation for free. Pros don't often use free software, mostly because it lacks support: BMD is definitely the counter to these with Resolve. The paid-version allows for greater resolutions and more customization.
Pros
We've come a long way since the early Resolve versions. So many tools added release after release (and they also come often), it is now a full fledged one-stop video solution. Node canvas is very easy to work with. Clip management is intuitive and fast. BMD's vision is clear: they create the best editor they can to work with their own hardware, but unlike others they make it as easy to work with BMD-camera captured footage than it is with other formats. All this for a very, very cheap price and the option to actually own the software rather than renting (wink wink Adobe?)
Cons
Resolve is a professional video workstation, and like every software of this caliber the learning curve can be a bit steep for newcomers; it takes time and practice to really master it. You want pro results? You better get studying!
Reasons for Switching to DaVinci Resolve
First and foremost we chose Resolve for its incredibly powerful color grading features. But since it became a very good editor too, we're slowly moving away from other solutions. We here at Creative Alliance use Davinci Resolve daily to edit our videos. We produce daily videos in our multiple YouTube Channels like REACTION RETREAT and occasionally in our another channel CREATIVE ALLIANCE MUSIC. Editing videos have never been this fun and wide variety of features make this software a must have!

Pros

I started using DaVinci Resolve because I was starting to run out of space on my hard drive due to the storage being taken up by the software I was using and the size of the files they were creating. When I started using DaVinci Resolve I realized that I couldn't put it down again, and although I occasionally go back to using some software that I used in the past, it is true that DaVinci is superior in many aspects, and no, I am not exaggerating. It's easy to use, easy to implement and very, VERY cheap if you want to use the studio version, because yes, on top of everything, DaVinci has a very complete version that is FREE
Pros
In davinci resolve it's much easier for me to implement all the functions that I need to edit or create a video.
For example, whereas before I needed to "process" my video into montage, editing, colorization, and special effects creation using different programs, with DaVinci Resolve it's as easy as flicking from one tab to another.
Not long ago I made a 3D title in DaVinci 50% faster than I did using 3 or more programs.
Cons
To be honest, DaVinci is very close to being perfect, seriously, it even seems like such an unreal program because of the number of functions it implements.
Perhaps sometimes this software is limited since it implements functions that should be dealt with one software at a time, but with time and discipline it's possible to perfectly master the virtues and the few defects that may arise.
Reasons for Switching to DaVinci Resolve
For the price compared to other software and because it had all the functions of these in a single presentation.

It's a tough sell for me being a "weekend warrior" with a lot of other "non editing" stuff to do as it takes time to learn as well as the actual editing.
Pros
I like that even in the free version you can edit in a resolution that most people don't even have in their living room. The 30k or whatever the paid version has was overkill for me but the color correction alone practically pays for itself because it will fix any kind of lighting mistake and i mean any. Next best thing are the graphics and sound effects which are far superior to anything else on the market.
Cons
I found it has a steep learning curve if you haven't been around for the previous 16 to 17 versions. Even the tutorials need tutorials, its ridiculous!

I use it to integrate VFX and 3D CGI for small shorts, but some times I had to create medium length media and it's also a pleasure to work for these projects.
Also in art schools I like teaching this software because it makes students feel like they progress fast on their creative solutions. It is not a class of teaching the tool, but a class of using a tool for media creation. Which is something that you cannot say of other software.
Pros
I really love how DaVinci is able to accommodate all kind of projects and workflows.
Having professional-grade software ranging from free to full-paid with advanced options is a killer.
This is very useful as the software to go for schools and students. And it can get as big as needed.
The learning curve for newcomers is very fast, and I have only had some trouble trying to explain how a project media library differs from what you see at the OS file level. But nothing wrong or bad with it.
Cons
I think the interface may seem to be complex when you see it the first time, but the tutorials that come in the documentation make this barrier to disappear fast.

The BEST VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE Money Can't Buy- IT'S FREE

Overall, I love it! It has everything a $0 film maker needs to put their creativity into fruition. It gives small filmmakers like us a tool that professionals still use and that has never happened before. Minus the major movie stars, we're almost on the same playing field now. I've edited videos on it for 3 years and I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon- if I do it will probably be to the full paid version Davinci Resolve Studio.
Pros
Firstly, it's free. It has everything anyone would ever need to make a film. From sound editing to colour correcting, all the tools it provides are professional and easy to use. Did I mention that it's free? Another great thing about the software is that it actually uses your GPU. I also particularly like its trimming tools as I find that there aren't many free video editing softwares that give you the ability to make such precise cuts on a video. This is especially useful if you're a video creator who HAS TO cut 'that scene' at just the right moment else the whole film is terrible. Yes, I'm that video creator. Visual playback isn't too shabby either- it does lag sometimes but a feature called optimized media reduces that. Lastly, the thing I probably like the most is the endless options for editing the actual video appearance. You can zoom in on it, crop it, stretch it and keyframe each change to create an animated effect.
Cons
It's system requirements. The software needs AT LEAST 16GB of DDR4 RAM to run smoothly. I currently run it on just 8GB which is fine if you don't mind lag and random software crashes. Davinci Resolve also comes with the default settings for Autosave being off. I learnt that one the hard way. It also sometimes has problems with audio output, particularly when you use more than one output device (like headphones and external speakers). Sometimes it doesn't automatically change to the system device. Another thing I noticed is that, for some odd reason, it randomly outputs mono audio from a stereo audio file but this does eventually fix itself.

Davinci Resolve is an all-encompassing piece of software that offers users an array of powerful tools and features. From color correction to audio mixing to compositing, this software provides a vast range of possibilities for filmmakers and videographers.Aside from its technical capabilities, it's extremely user-friendly and encourages creativity amongst its users. With plenty of tutorials available online, users can pick up the basics quickly and start playing around with their projects in no time at all.
Pros
What I appreciate about Davinci Resolve is its simplified yet powerful interface. As a long-time user of another competing software, it was quite refreshing to see how easy it was to get up and running with Davinci Resolve. With just a few clicks, I had access to all the tools needed for professional-quality videos such as color grading, audio mixing, and advanced effects. The fact that Blackmagic design took the time to make their software so user-friendly really impressed me.
Cons
Switching from one video editing software to another can be a daunting task, especially when faced with the complexity of Davinci Resolve. Despite its many features and capabilities, getting used to the different interfaces takes time and training. For new users, it may not be so intuitive at first glance. However, with patience and practice, users will begin to understand how this powerful program works. The design is well-organized thanks to its various menus and layouts that allow for easy navigation throughout the timeline. It provides extensive tools for color correction which allows editors to tweak colors accurately in order to achieve a desired look or feel for their projects. Overall, Davinci Resolve offers an array of options that give users greater control over their edit process but it does require some adjustment before you can start using it effectively.

Davinci Resolve is a powerful video, audio editor and animation creator
Reviewed on 2021-04-18

Here, where I work, this software is widely used to edit the main social media of the moment, because its construction allows the customization of different sizes and formats of renderings, besides allowing to create animations with texts, images and drawings. Its main benefit is to attend all stages of content production such as video editing, animations, colorization, audio editing and video export.
Pros
This software is very powerful, it brings several ways to edit videos, create animations for YouTube, Facebook, igtv and any type of social media. Available on the three main operating systems on the market such as Windows, Mac and Linux. It has two versions, the free version has some effects blocked, and the full version with all the effects and tools available.
At first the software seems complicated to operate, but over time it is possible to learn to use it without much effort.
It is a complete software where it has several tabs arranged in a workflow that greatly facilitates the use of the various tools that are: video editor, coloring tools, animation creation, editing and audio mixing with effects such as reverb , delay, noise reduction, side-chain and many others; and a rendering screen where you can choose from various video rendering formats.
To install this software you must have a graphics card, in addition to having enough space available on your hard drive to support the caches that are created throughout the Editions, and at least 8GB of RAM.
In your video editor you can create animations with phrases from pre-existing models and change them according to your needs.
It also accepts import of subtitles from other software, with the possibility of editing them easily.
It has a database system where it is possible to create, import and export projects to other similar software.
Cons
In its version for Linux it is not possible to edit videos in MP4 format, needing to convert them to MOV format. It does not accept the customization of some shortcuts.

Davinci Resolve free is all you need for most small to medium scale video editing projects
Reviewed on 2020-09-06
Pros
The free version of Resolve is by far the most functional and feature rich video editing software out there. It beats out Adobe Premiere in the overall feature set you get, especially when you start to get into building effects in Fusion.
Each update has helped Resolve take more advantage of powerful GPUs so when you're working with VFX you're rewarded by having a high end GPU during playback and rendering.
The color modification options are rich and can do incredible things with your footage. You can easily take non-log footage and apply pre-existing effects and layers to get the look you want.
Fairlight is their audio editing suite, which is how this application started out as so you can imagine that the audio editing tools are amazing, and they are. One of the most convenient tools is the ability for Resolve to use audio analysis to automatically line up multiple clips from different cameras that filmed the same scene. If you find yourself often using a clapboard to align your footage, say good bye (assuming you're capturing audio from each camera).
The community of creators on Resolve is massive and you can find tutorial son how to do almost anything online. It's how I got started learning how to use the software and I'm still scratching the surface of it's capabilities.
Cons
The software is huge and cumbersome to learn. Luckily there's tons of tutorials on youtube from many creators that can show you how to do simple to super complex tasks.
If you're moving from Adobe Premiere, you're going to miss the ability to import content from other apps directly inside of your project. Resolve doesn't support integration into Photoshop and whatnot so you can't go from editing an image in PS then open it up in Resolve like you can in Premiere. If you're someone who heavily relies on the Adobe apps, this will be the hardest thing to get past, but once you've adjusted your workflow it doesn't really add that much time to your projects. You're more so losing out on the convenience.
In previous versions it had a tendency to crash randomly. Sometimes effects you create would go corrupt or prevent the project from successfully rendering or the Resolve to crash during rendering. This would require you to pinpoint what part of the video where the failure occurred, find the offending effect, delete and recreate it from scratch. This could be caused by something as simple as a scrolling text box. It was impossible to know what would prevent a video from rendering, which was super frustrating especially when considering the error message doesn't give you any info into what caused the render to fail. They've since made fixes to prevent this from happening, but just something to keep in mind when working in large projects: save often and test your exports.

The most important thing I loved about Da Vinci Resolve is that it is free and I can use it for several uses, but my favorite use without any comparison is color correction, you won't believe me how powerful it is in color adjustment and correction, I can modify the colors of my videos now as we see in the movies, it really is Very nice
I know there are many programs out there that offer color correction benefits, but none quite as professional as Da Vinci Resolve.
Believe me, DaVinci Resolve is currently competing with paid programs with a high strength of its features such as video editing, adding colors, removing noise, adding echo and some other effects, it accepts importing subtitles from other programs.
Cons
I think the only problem is that the user interface is complicated, so if you are a beginner, get ready to invest your time and effort to master the program and use the tools.
